“A whole festival wrapped into one band” – BBC Radio Scotland
With their rousing mix of traditional Celtic folk, modern original compositions, and an exceptionally charismatic stage presence, CARA is one of Europe's most renowned folk bands. The group has already won two Irish Music Awards and thrills audiences worldwide – from the USA to Australia to Scotland, France, and of course Germany.
At the heart of CARA's sound are the voices of Gudrun Walther and Kim Edgar: they span a vocal range from dreamy ballads to archaic Gaelic mouth music and socially relevant original compositions. Virtuoso instrumental pieces featuring the fiddle and Irish bagpipes (uilleann pipes) provide musical highlights – masterfully played by Gudrun Walther and Simon Pfisterer.
The band's rhythmically and harmonically complex sound bears the signature of guitarist and producer Jürgen Treyz, who also forms the duo “Deitsch” with Walther. The line-up is complemented at selected concerts by the acclaimed Irish percussionist Cormac Byrne, who most recently accompanied CARA on their 2024 St. Patrick's Day tour.
